When determining your dose of Paxil, your healthcare provider will consider several factors, including your age and any other medical conditions you may have. In general, the recommended starting Paxil dose is Paxil 20 mg once daily (usually in the morning). The maximum Paxil dosage is usually either 50 mg or 60 mg, depending on the condition being treated.

• It usually takes several weeks (perhaps even more than a month) before feeling the beneficial effects of Paxil. Try not to be discouraged if Paxil does not work right away for you.
   
• Do not crush or chew Paxil tablets. Make sure to swallow Paxil tablets whole.
   
• Make sure to shake Paxil suspension (liquid) thoroughly before each dose.
   
• If Paxil makes you drowsy, try taking it before bedtime. If Paxil causes insomnia for you, try taking it in the morning. Most people take Paxil in the morning.
   
• You can take Paxil with or without food. If Paxil bothers your stomach, try taking it with food.
   
• Take Paxil at the same time each day. This will help to maintain an even level of the drug in your blood.
   
• Abruptly stopping medications like Paxil can result in withdrawal symptoms.
   
• For Paxil to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. Paxil will not work if you take it differently than how your healthcare provider prescribed it.
